The Wound Center at  Dayton Heart Hospital

Comprehensive Wound Care

The Wound Center at the Dayton Heart Hospital is a comprehensive outpatient center designed for the treatment of non healing or difficult wounds. Physicians refer their patients to the Center for comprehensive wound care management by our qualified team of professionals that include:

  • Physicians with advanced training in wound management and Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy.
  • Nursing staff trained in the care of acute and chronic wounds.
  • Experienced staff to assist with appointments, medical records and health insurance process.

Individual Treatment Plans
The Wound Center at the Dayton Heart Hospital provides a thorough diagnostic examination of the wound and the patient. Through the use of clinical treatment, debridement, medicines, dressing and support services. A comprehensive and individual treatment plan is then developed and communicated to the referring physician. Information concerning the patient's progress is continually submitted to the referring physician. The update even includes photos of the wound with a progress report at regular intervals.

The Center is designed to provide care on a highly individualized basis. so we can periodically evaluate and readjust our treatment plan as necessary to achieve a positive outcome.

 

Statistics
Each year, approximately 5 million American wail suffer from chronic wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems, or many other conditions.

  • 1.5 million people who suffer from chronic wounds have diabetic ulcers
  • 2.5 million people have pressure ulcers
  • 1 million people have venous stasis (circulatory) ulcers
  • 15% of all diabetics will develop chronic wounds
  • Patients with diabetes have a 15-fold increase in the risk of amputation and approximately 60,000 diabetics will undergo amputation each year
  • Over half of all diabetics have or will develop neuropathy, gangrene, or amputation.
