If you think you're
having a heart attack, how fast you seek treatment and how quickly
you are diagnosed will greatly affect the outcome. With this in
mind, Dayton Heart Hospital offers the following warning signs of
a heart attack.
- Uncomfortable
pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the
chest - lasting more than a few minutes.
- Pain
may spread to the shoulders, neck or arms.
- Chest
discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea
or shortness of breath may also occur.
- Women
are more likely to die of a heart attack than men. Partly
because they tend to suffer milder symptoms -- shortness
of breath and neck aches vs. the more familiar chest pain
-- resulting in a delay getting to a hospital.
It is important to
note that you may not have all these
signs and that they sometimes subside and return.
When one, or all occur, get help
immediately. |
